Chath pierSath

Chath pierSath is a Cambodian-American artist
whose studio is in Phnom Penh. Seemingly sad on the surface,
his folk-style paintings render trauma, ephemeral hopes
and unrealized dreams in a naive, child-like manner.
Yet they also contain the optimism and vibrancy of modern Cambodia
expressed in the confident brushwork of a master colorist.
See more of Chath's artwork on his website.

Jef's Ass (oil on fabric), 2009

"I created this painting after the break-up
of my one-year relationship.
I loved my boyfriend's ass
because I used to shave it.
It is a tribute,
painted with the colors of a bad bruise
that is slow to fade."
